Weight Management for Attitude Adjustment?

Q: My Cat has begun to bully the other cats recently. Is there a remedy that can help his behavior?

A: Our first line of recommendations for cats is flower essences. These were once described to me as helping retune the “scale of life.” However, before you try a remedy, look at any changes in your cat’s diet, environment or health. Any of these can be an underlying cause of behavior changes, such as bullying.

Q, Part II: The only change that I can think of is his vet put him on a dry weight management for to help him shed a few pounds.

A, Part II: One of the more fascinating comments I hear once the initial panic of removing or minimizing dry food and replacing with moderate to high meat protein canned or raw foods, is there is better weight management (if fed properly) and improved behavior. The excessive carbohydrates in most dry cats foods, especially those for weight management, can contribute to  inflammatory conditions.  Inflammation which can be seen in health conditions, such as arthritis, but can also manifest as behavior issues. Consider removing all dry and introducing quality canned foods or even a raw food diet with your cat. You’ll find you can better manage his weight too!

Q, Part III: But he loves his dry food and won’t eat canned food.

A, Part III: It’s important to understand dry foods are flavored to entice, even addict your cat.  The more they eat, the more they want. This is especially true with weight management foods, because they are empty calories and do not satiate your cat. Canned foods offer more meat protein, less carbohydrates, and proper moisture content. Thereby satisfying your cat with a proper volume of food, reducing cravings, reducing the carb overload, offering better hydration, and encouraging proper weight loss. When your cat feels better, his attitude will improve!
